I had a tough time researching about redlining and teachers & students talk about systemic racism. I experienced depression during the researching process and I was traumatized by words coming from people around me. I was questioned about my intention in researching about it as my dissertation topic and was criticized by one of my husband's family members who believed that "it is ridiculous for me, as a Chinese who grew up in a country has no democracy to do research on systemic racism in the States". I had several arguments with some of my husband's families on whether systemic racism is a real or fabricated problem in the States.
